Privacy Policy

Runway is an expense-tracking app built to keep your financial data yours. This policy explains what data the app handles and, just as importantly, what it doesn't.

Summary

• Runway has no backend server and no user accounts. We (the developer) never see your data.
• Everything you enter is stored on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, synced through your own private iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit.
• The only network requests Runway makes on its own are to a public currency exchange rate service, and those requests contain no personal or financial information.
• There is no analytics, tracking, or advertising SDK in the app.

Data you enter

Runway stores the information you add to track your finances, including expenses, income, budgets, recurring payments and income, installment plans, categories, and savings accounts. This data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.

iCloud sync

If iCloud is enabled on your device, Runway automatically syncs your data to your private CloudKit database so it's available across your own devices. This sync happens directly between your device and Apple's iCloud infrastructure — the data never passes through or is stored on any server we operate. It is subject to Apple's privacy policy.

Home screen widget

Runway's widget reads a small snapshot of your budget figures (e.g. amount spent, amount remaining) that the app writes to a local App Group container shared between the app and widget on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not used for any purpose besides displaying the widget.

Currency exchange rates

If you track expenses or income in a foreign currency, Runway fetches current exchange rates from a public exchange rate API (open.er-api.com), requesting rates only by currency code. No personal information, account data, or transaction details are included in these requests.

Exporting your data

Runway lets you export your data as a CSV or JSON file at any time. This export happens entirely on your device and is only shared if and where you choose to send it, using the standard iOS share sheet. We do not receive a copy.

Deleting your data

You can permanently erase all your data from within the app's settings. This removes it from your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, from your private iCloud database as well. This action cannot be undone.

What we don't do

Runway does not include analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or third-party tracking SDKs. We do not collect your location, access your camera or photo library, or request access to your contacts.

Children's privacy

Runway is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, note them here.
